History of University

On the 12 of July, 2018 one of the leading agricultural universities of the Volga Federal District – Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University named after P. A. Stolypin will mark the 75 anniversary since its foundation (before 1996 it was named Ulyanovsk Agricultural Institute, before April 25, 2017 – Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy named after P. A. Stolypin).

The educational institution was organized during the Great Patriotic War and incorporated the teaching staff and students of the Voronezh Veterinary Institute evacuated to the Ulyanovsk region. The prominent scientists - Corresponding Members of the All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences, professors I. V. Orlov and S.S. Elenevsky,the honoured workers of science of the RSFSR, professors V.N. Neklyudov, K. P. Tulaikova, S. S. Berlyand, professors O.A. Ivanova, I. P. Polkanov, B. M. Askinazi and others have played a significant part in the development of the University as an educational and scientific centre on the Middle Volga area.

The development of the University, the strengthening of economic, educational and scientific facilities from 1943 to 2004 took place under the leadership of the Directors L.D. Kuzin, G.Kh. Alafinov, P. G. Vlasov, V.F. Krasota, Rectors A.A. Tulinov, V.A. Belov, A. V. Kuzmin, M. E. Kondratiev, B. I. Zotov and Yu. B. Driz. Since March 2004, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Honorary Worker of higher professional education of the Russian Federation, Honorary Worker of the Agro-industrial complex of Russia A. V. Dozorov has been running the University.

P.A. Stolypin Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University is an authoritative university both in Russia and beyond its borders. In 2016, it was included into the international ranking of higher education institutions of Russia, published by the Academic Ranking of World Universities-European Standard (ARES) with a B level + (reliable quality of teaching, scientific activities and the employers’ demand for graduates).

Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University is annually amongst the most effective universities based on the monitoring results in the main fields of activity of the educational organization of higher education in Russia. Stolypin Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University has taken its significant stands: the first one is among Ulyanovsk universities, the seventh is among 54 agrarian higher educational institutions of the country and the 228th is among 1289 universities of the Russian Federation upon the monitoring of the effectiveness made by the National Endowment for the Innovation in the field of education in 2017.

Eight University educational programs are recognized as the best ones within the project "The Best educational programs of innovation Russia-2017".

In 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 the University became the winner of the Federal stage of the All-Russian competition "100 best goods of Russia" in the nomination "Services in the education system".

Scientific research and innovative activity at Stolypin Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University is implemented in priority fields of science, methods and technology development in the Russian Federation.

Since 2005, the University has successfully been participating in the Russian agro-industrial exhibition "Golden Autumn". During these years, it was awarded 10 bronze, 17 silver and 19 gold medals in the exhibition in the industry competitions "For the production of high performance agricultural machinery and the introduction of advanced resource-saving technologies”, "For innovative solutions in the field of agricultural science", "For the effective information support in agro-industrial complex ."

In 2014, the University became a member of the Technological platform "Technologies of food and processing industry of the agro-industrial complex - the products of healthy nutrition".

Inventive and rationalization activity in the University demonstrates the importance and novelty in the scientific results, obtained by the teaching staff and research scientists in the course of their research work. More than 400 patents have been received by staff members, postgraduates and students of USAU for the past five years. In this indicator Stolypin Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University is amongst the leaders of the agrarian universities of the Russian Federation.

The University has the status of the largest scientific center in VFD. Scientific, technical, scientific and methodological activities of international, national and regional level are annually held in it. For the past five years, the University has organized more than 20 international scientific conferences, which addressed topical issues of agrarian science and education.

The University has international cooperation with higher education and scientific institutions of 14 countries, including Armenia, Belarus, Gabon, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Korea, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Finland, Sweden, Japan.

Stolypin Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University has obtained certificates of professionally – public standards and criteria accreditation , established by the accredited programs of the national Center according to the European Higher Education Area (ESG) and the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA): seven educational programs “Economics and Management”, three educational programs “ Veterinary and Zootechny”, two educational programs “Applied geology, mining engineering, oil and gas engineering and geodesy”, two educational programs “ Biological Sciences”, two educational programs “Engineering and Technology of Ground Transport’, and the supplementary vocational programs “Cadastre”, “Transport and handling equipments Operation”.

In addition, the University was marked with the badge "EXCELLENT QUALITY", that testifies to the high quality of educational programs accredited in accordance with European standards to guarantee the quality of education ESG-ENQA, the requirements of professional standards and the labor market, with the right to post on the website of the University with reference to the register of accredited programs of the national Agency.

During the years, the University has trained more than 50 thousand highly qualified specialists, including many government and public persons, leading scientists, heads of municipalities and agricultural enterprises.
